Global Biopolitical Overview of the United Nations on Neurotechnologies and Human Rights in Dialogue
Abstract
Neurotechnology affords tremendous potential to affect the nature of healthcare, as well as the daily conduct of public life. Given increasing trends of globalization and the enactment of science and technology upon the world-stage, it is important to acknowledge that socio-cultural values and needs may differ widely, and any uses (and/or misuse) of neurotechnologies must be sensitive to both these values' hierarchies, and the proximate and more distal impact of neurotechnological applications within differing social, economic and political contexts. This lecture will explore these issues, with particular emphasis upon constructs of justice, socio-political diversity, and the importance of upholding the good of scientific progress.Speaker Information
